Draft Magazine Feed: It’s official: working in breweries is awesome

Or at least working in one is. According to none other than the Wall Street Journal, New Belgium Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado is one of the 15 best small workplaces in America. Kim Jordan and Jeff Lebesch, the founders of the company that produces Fat Tire, bequeath every employee with a new cruiser bike on his or her one year anniversary of employment. Even better, after working at the brewery for five years, employees — who own 32 percent of the company — earn an all-expenses paid trip to Belgium to learn about beer culture. These perks lead to a 97 percent retention rate.

Benefits of employment go beyond bikes and trips, however. The company donates $1 of every barrel to charities and also gives away one percent of its sales to support philanthropy. Basically, you’ll feel like a good person while brewing some excellent beer.
